KFOK’s Fall Concert Hits a High Note

A crowd of more than a hundred music lovers packed Garden Valley’s Marshall Grange Saturday, November 13 to enjoy a performance by Nevada City troubadours Paul Kamm and Eleanore MacDonald, who presented a passionate set of original songs and a couple of tunes by Woody Guthrie and Bruce “Utah” Phillips. Kamm then returned to the stage, playing rhythm guitar and performing backing vocals, as part of a foursome led by Placerville blues, bluegrass, and soul guitarist Jonny Mojo. Mojo’s quartet wafted waves of musical notes throughout the venue, scooping up some dancers from the audience and spilling them onto the dance floor to weave themselves into a series of cover medleys and jams driven by Mojo’s blistering solos and grounded by a tight rhythm section. Local violinist Lisa Bond-Torgerson also joined the ensemble for a spell.

The event, produced by KFOK Community Radio broadcasters Gary Oswald and Buzz Chernoff, raised over $1,000 for operating expenses for the Georgetown Divide’s all-volunteer radio station KFOK thanks the event’s organizers, sound man Mike Taylor (who donated his time for the event), and KFOK and Grange volunteers, as well as Kamm and MacDonald, who gave a portion of their CD-sales proceeds, and several attendees who donated money.

We also appreciate our partnership with the Marshall Grange, which serves the Divide by providing a free venue for meetings and events, and we’re thankful for the support of the fine businesses that sold tickets for us: our neighbors the Rucka Chucky Pasty Hut, Garden Valley’s Golden Gecko Garden Center and Rose’s Garden Café, and Cherry Records in Auburn and Main Street Music in Placerville. We’re also especially grateful to all the musicians who came and shared their love of music with us, and to all the folks who came out to have a good time and support two valuable community resources. KFOK sponsors several music concerts throughout the year, and we’re already planning our 2011 series. Interested in assisting us? Know any bands and musicians from the Divide and beyond we should contact about playing here? Please contact us at [4info@kfok.org].
