HOW TO BECOME A BROADCASTER AT KFOK COMMUNITY RADIO

Broadcasting is fun and easy and we will even train you for Free!

STEP ONE - APPLY FOR A SHOW

Please download the application form and fact sheet (Microsoft Word documents to the left) or stop by the station to pick up an application and fill it out. BE SPECIFIC about the programing you want to do. If you want to do a music program remember that we already have a number of variety shows that play a broad range of music so we are currently looking for shows that will narrow their scope to one genera of music, i.e... Hawaiian, opera, big band, folk, bluegrass, Celtic, surf music, fusion jazz, space music, classical, country swing, punk, cowboy, international folk, world beat, Broadway or film musicals, gospel, easy listening, etc... Don't just say I love all music forms and want to play things from my extensive collection.... been there, done that. It is acceptable if you would like to draw from two or more related genera. i.e... folk and bluegrass, or 50's and 60's rock, or big band and swing. We have a small KFOK library of music to draw upon but it is still a good idea for broadcasters to have their own personal library when they come to the station to do their show. You could probably begin your show with a collection of 30 to 50 CDs, tapes or LPs in a single genre and be able to do a show for two or three months but ideally you will want to have 100's of titles to choose from if you expect to be on the air for a year or more.

We are also interested in community affairs programming so we are very open to having a variety of talk shows on any number of topics. Spoken word programs on-air at this time are, Garden Thyme, Horse Talk, Science and Environment Review, Story Time, Aging Successfully, Money Matters and Everything Green. What topics are you interested in? What community members would you like to interview? Think about it and come up with something that will serve our community. Remember that our motto is "Uniting the Divide & Beyond" so don't expect to get on air with a shock-jock attitude or any type of programming that would ridicule any segment of our community.
