Broadcasting is very enjoyable and rewarding, but because KFOK Community Radio is an all-volunteer operation, more is involved than sitting at the microphone and playing your favorite tunes or talking about your favorite subject.
When you are approved to become a KFOK Community Radio broadcaster, we will ask you to contribute to our operating budget with aan annual fee of $25 fee or more, plus a onetime $25 fee when you learn how to operate the broadcasting equipment. We also request that you complete a hold-harmless agreement.
Broadcasters are required to complete a log during each air shift and to make announcements in addition to presenting their programs. We also require attendance at quarterly broadcasters' meetings.
Broadcasters are also required to fulfill a commitment to completing service hours. This involves helping with station operations by serving on a committee or taking on a management or staff position, helping out at a concert or other community event, performing cleaning and maintenance, soliciting underwriters, or reviewing CDs. Prospective broadcasters are required to complete 4 service hours before they begin broadcasting.
All this and more is explained in The KFOK Broadcasters' Handbook, which all applicants are required to read before beginning their training. Download the handbook, or purchase a hard copy for $5. |
