KFOK Community Radio will celebrate its 8th annual
“Read Across America” event with a
special live broadcast that will air from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Tuesday March 2nd & Wednesday morning, March 3rd, 2010.

The “Read Across America” event sponsored by the National Education Association will feature an all-day broadcast of school children and community members reading from their favorite books. This event is scheduled annually in the first week of March to honor the birthday of Dr. Seuss for his contribution in getting kids interested in reading.

KFOK broadcasts at 95.1 FM and through our internet broadcast which can be listened to worldwide. Be sure to invite family and friends to listen in.

At this time we are inviting everyone in our community to our new studio location on Main Street to participate by reading live “on the air” for your friends and neighbors. Now is the time for community members and teachers to sign up to participate in this wonderful program that helps motivate children to read. We encourage folks to read a short story, poem or excerpt from a favorite book. We suggest that you plan to read something that will take from 5 to 15 minutes. We encourage teachers to bring in their entire class but try and organize yourentire classroom presentation to be from 30 to 45 minutes long so that we can squeeze in as many classrooms as we can throughout the day.

Applications are available at the Georgetown Library, the KFOK broadcast studio or you can download the form on our web site by clicking on this link.... Read Across American application PDF file

This is the 8th year that KFOK has participated in the NEA Read Across America program with an all-day broadcast event. The Event was initiated by Nina Blonski who works in the schools and is a volunteer broadcaster at KFOK hosting “Storytime” on Tuesdays at 3:00 PM. You can see what our past events event looks like by viewing our photo gallery pages at www.kfok.org/gallery/read .

SPECIAL NOTE TO TEACHERS: We invite all schools to participate in this year’s event.  Think about a field trip to the studio so students are able to read "live on the air".  In the past, Northside School has pre-recorded students reading and then submitted the recordings on CD to be played at the station .  If allowed enough time KFOK might be able to send a volunteer broadcaster to your class to pre-record your students, but live is soooo... much better. Great fun for kids and parentsWe generally give each classroom a half hour to an hour so plan accordingly.

Email Nina Blonski or call to arrange a time in our schedule or to let us know how you would like to participate.

For more information please contact Nina at... nina@kfok.org
by phone late afternoon and evening at....

by mail to... KFOK,  P.O. Box 4238, Georgetown, 95634.

There will be forms at the Georgetown Public Library also to be downloaded from the KFOK web site.
